It was originally intended to be streamed directly on Hulu, but the good reception of the test screenings led Searchlight Pictures to give it a wide theatrical release instead. Overall the movie is good, but I expected it to be darker and more gruesome than a comedy.
Adams is undeniably incredible
Although I am not currently a parent, I can completely relate to the themes presented. If you have questions about motherhood and female rage, this movie might be informative. The script is also well written; Some of the character dialogues are very accurate. Marielle Heller is definitely a talented director who can adapt a seemingly impossible book into a hit movie. This is the best performance I’ve seen from him so far, and it might be the best performance I’ve seen this year.
It’s a career-defining performance
He is wild, brave and funny. He really commits to the role. The depth of her performance is evident in the intricate details of her facial expressions, which convey her anger, joy and pain beautifully. Adams plays the role of mother with an authenticity that resonates deeply, likely stemming from her own experiences as a mother in real life. This personal connection elevates his performance, making it both relevant and authentic.
No, absolutely not
I can’t help but feel a strong connection between her portrait and my own mother, as if she captured the essence of motherly love and sacrifice in a way that really speaks to me. This movie looks divisive so far. I’ve seen some people dismiss his performance, with many thinking Adams shouldn’t win or even be nominated for this odd role. For me, acting awards are always based on the performance, not the movie. He is the vehicle of the film.
The passion must not be lost
He should definitely be nominated or even win. I hope more people understand and understand my point. Also, Scoot McNairy is also fantastic. Despite some flaws, the film is worth watching.
